A Season of Advent

advent (ad'vent) n.
1. arrival or coming into being
2. the coming of Christ into the world

After Thanksgiving we look forward to the season of advent as we prepare our hearts for Christmas. Advent isn't about gifts, but about The Gift that God has given to us in His Son Jesus Christ.

So, amidst the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season, how can we truly prepare to receive the greatest gift of all?

As a family we have used an advent wreath for years. Each evening we read a portion of scripture, sing a hymn and light a candle on the wreath. We will continue to do this but this year I'm adding an Advent Calendar.

I've seen advent calendars for years that help count the days to Christmas beginning on December 1st. But this year I saw an advent calendar that not only counts the days for Christmas, but each numbered drawer contains a symbol of the Christmas story leading up to God's gift for us.

Check out this beautiful idea and I hope it blesses you and your family as you share in preparing your hearts for the true meaning of Christmas!
